President’s Letter: October Treats

,

by Bryan Downer

October has been all treats, no tricks (unless you are a Cowboys fan).  Our PAC Golf Tournament at Texas Star was a tremendous success. I want to thank all the members who sponsored and played in this event.  Our Spring and Fall golf tournaments and Pickle Ball events raise funds for FWAA’s political action committee (PAC).

Your generous support of our PAC ensures that FWAA’s advocacy efforts remain strong. This month, FWAA and TAA PAC donated funds to eight FWAA-area state legislators’ campaigns. We attended four political fundraisers and had one-on-one meetings with eight state officials, including State Senators Kelly Hancock and Phil King. During these meetings, FWAA members educated our state legislators about the adverse impact of squatters, the need for additional property tax reductions, and reform to the eviction process.

Another October treat occurs Friday, October 18th, when our Nominating Committee presents our slate of officers and directors to the FWAA Board for approval. Thank you to FWAA Past President Cindi Scoggins for chairing this year’s Nominating Committee. I am excited to be a part of the remarkable things that President-Elect Sarah Turner and her 2025 leadership team have in store. FWAA’s future is bright.

One more treat. I entreat you to vote on November 5th. Do not wait until it is too late. Early voting begins October 21st. For FWAA members who live in Congressional District 12 (western Tarrant County and parts of Parker County), you have an unprecedented opportunity to vote for one of our own, Craig Goldman. What a treat it will be to have a multifamily owner/operator representing us in Washington, D.C.

One last treat. Be sure to nominate your industry owner/operator and supplier partner colleagues for a FWAA Lone Star Award.  Nominations for this prestigious recognition closes October 31st. Visit livefw.org for more information.

Now, where did I put my James Bond costume?
